How To Avoid Awkward Pauses In Conversations
Through open ended questions and some banter can make the conversation fun and interesting for hours, you may sometimes reach a point that you think that you have nothing more to discuss about.
Try using the following techniques to avoid such awkward pauses.
1. Start imitating what she’s doing, exaggerating it (the point is to make her realize you are imitating her to have fun).
2. Make her catch you lying: Practice your voice tone and body language so that when you banter she KNOWS you are joking to have fun.
EXAMPLE:
HER: My birthday is on 3 March?
YOU: Really? Mine too! (make it seem fake)
HER: No, I don’t believe you! What’s your sign?
YOU: (pretend you are trying to cover your lie) Emm, ehh, Aeries?
HER: I knew you were lying. You’re birthday is not on 3 March.
YOU: (pretending you are surprised) They are not?
3. Ask fun questions:
(a) Ask a stupid question and disqualify her:
EXAMPLE:
YOU: What’s your favorite ice-cream?HER: Vanilla.
YOU: That’s minus 1 point. If you’d said strawberry, I would have asked your number.
HER: What about chocolate?
YOU: Would have walked away!
YOU: How much sugar do you add in your coffee?
HER: 1 teaspoon… why?
YOU: Sorry, I can’t talk to you any more.
(b) Ask how she would feel, on a scale 1 to 10, about something extraordinary.
EXAMPLES:
YOU: On a scale 1 to 10, how would you feel if you were wearing THAT girl’s dress / had THAT kind of hair?
YOU: On a scale 1 to 10, how would you feel riding the roller coaster naked?
(c) Ask a simple question in an interesting way, for example:
YOU: So, what do you do?.. (pause) You can lie if you want.
3. Play a quick game:
Play a mini game you can make up that moment, like guessing the story of 2 people you see, or guessing what they are talking about, or how long they have been dating etc.
Play “fvck-marry-kill” (credit “Twentysix”): Show her three guys and tell her to chose one that she’s supposed to have sex, one that she’s supposed to get married to, and one that she’s supposed to kill.
Oh and by the way, make sure you choose 3 really weird guys.
