Pickup Lines VS Conversation Starters That Work!
Question: Pickup lines… do they work?
Men use pickup lines to differentiate themselves from all the others, but unfortunately most pickup lines do NOT work. It’s a loss of time to search the internet for pickup lines. I’ve read more than 2000 pickup lines and I only found 5 or 6 to be working!
Let’s suppose that many pickup lines won’t work because they became cliché. If a pickup line is new (i.e. not cliché), how come it doesn’t work also?
Let’s have a look into the two major categories of conversation starters (also called “openers”). There are to ways to open: Directly and Indirectly.
DIRECT conversation starter is an conversation starter directly revealing your interest in her. If you want this to work, you have to be CONFIDENT (no excuses for your desires!) and SINCERE, so that she knows that you are not kidding or making fun of her. Somebody new to this may need much practice to fine tune the delivery (voice tone and body language) of his direct conversation starter, but once the woman is open (you’ve broke the ice), it is clear that she is interested in you (attraction is present). In my experience they work quite well, but not in a high energy place, like a club. They’re good for a bookstore, a mall, in the street (if she is not in a hurry)…
INDIRECT conversation starter is an conversation starter NOT revealing any sexual interest in her, rather than you just breaking the ice and allows you to start a conversation. You should be SPONTANEOUS, FUN and INTERESTING. This is a much easier way to start a conversation, because it’s safer to open revealing no sexual interest. You are giving her no reason to reject you. You can also find out about her relationship status before driving the conversation to a sexual level. However, you may need some more work on your conversation later, because she most often gives no sign of interest in you, at the beginning (even though she might already be attracted to you).
If you sincerely deliver your direct conversation starter and she starts laughing the “you are a clown” laughter, then she is not committed to your sincerity and the effect is ruined… But hey, the ice is already broken and you can have a fun conversation with her!
As a rule of thumb, pickup lines reveal your interest in her, thus it’s a case of direct opening and should be delivered sincerely. Do you want to know why they don’t work?
1. Their words hide either too much cockiness…
“Your dad must not have a penis. He’s got a paintbrush!” – oh my God! –
“Do you like Bacon? Want to strip?” – come on guys, be smart enough not to use these –
2. …or neediness:
“If I was peter pan you’d be my happy thought!” – who invented these lines anyway? –
If you are sincere about a cocky pickup line then you seem to be a jerk. If you try to be fun delivering the same cocky line, it’s like laughing at her and you seem to be a jerk again.
In the same way, if you are sincere about a needy pickup line you appear to be a loser. If you try to be fun with it, you are in danger to be perceived as a low confident, goofy jackass.
It’s a lose – lose situation. That’s why I distinguish all these with a sincere direct conversation starter as:
“Every woman entering this place would kill her mother look half as beautiful as you”, remember… sincerely (it’s a direct conversation starter)
However, you have to realize that no conversation starter will get her to bed immediately, the same way that you sometimes see in the movies. The only purpose of an conversation starter is to break the ice and start a conversation with a woman.
